I don't know if you do much blogging, but it is pretty much like using MS Word, but with fewer choices. It covers the the basics, though - font, font size, bold, italics, underline, strike-through, highlight, numbering, bullet points, right/center/left justification, as well as ways to simply embed photos and videos.
Blogspot only allows one blog page (which is pretty typical), but if you want to separate things a little and make it easier to search specific topics, you can add tags (or labels) at the end of each post. More 'tech savvy' parents might appreciate it especially if you are making a lot of specific announcements that do not apply to everybody. They can choose to subscribe to specific tags or labels.
If you choose to do twitter integration, these labels might help too, as you probably don't want to send out a media blitz with every announcement.
Lastly, the logo, banner, layout, anything can be changed within the software limits. There are only so many templates, but every layout has a "banner" area. Then you pretty much get the choice of right, left or both side sidebars, and then the blog in the middle there somewhere.
Let me know what you think. If you like it, I can have it up and running (all the twitter, text, and Facebook stuff included) before tomorrow and I'll send you the passwords for everything. You can change the passwords to something you will remember and will be able to play around with it and add your own content.
